Wearable computers seemed like a fanciful idea only recently, but now they’re pretty much the next big thing to go mainstream. The emergence of USB 3.2 has been also on the same track.
So, if you’re a techy geek who copies tons of data like photos and videos file, here is the new kid-The USB 3.2.
USB Type-C™ has long been flaunted as the universal standard that will cater to all, a single port that can charge your phone, laptop, tablet, Bluetooth speaker, and what not, all through a single common port.
Excitingly, the future of charging is becoming complex, with different voltage requirements, specifications for data transfer and power, making it infinetly more complicated to ensure that when you plug something into a USB Type-C™ port it will actually work the way you want it to.
So what’s the Novelty !
The USB Device Working Group ("DWG") announced on July 25th 2017 the release of USB 3.2 specification. USB 3.2. The Specs mentioned will support “multi-lane operation” that, in theory, will allow devices utilizing it to transfer multiple lanes of data at the same time. Quoting it in a simpler manner, the USB 3.2 is faster than USB 3.0, allowing upto two lanes of 5Gbps or two lanes of 10Gbps operation.
With 20 Gbps theoretical speed, USB 3.2 moves closer to Thunderbolt 3 speed. Not only will such high bandwidth, of over 2 GB/s, be useful to support 4K and 4K raw data rates at 60 ps but also help in faster data backups”.
Of course, in order to take advantage of USB 3.2, we’ll need devices that support it. Assuming the host and recipient devices are compatible with USB 3.2, and even older USB 3.0 cables will see faster speeds of upto 2Gbps. So, assuming manufacturers support it, we should still see some advantages from the new spec, even if we’re not ready to upgrade all our stuff.
In addition to providing multi-lane operation with current USB Type-C cables, the USB 3.2 specification also provides for a minor update to the hub specification that also increases performance and ensures seamless transitions between single- and multi-lane operation
